At CES 2022, we get to know what device is this, and moreover, it has been released in a rather new and interesting packaging design. It comes in three separate boxes: One is for the watch and the other for the bands and then there is a bigger box for housing the whole set. In the same vein, the package comes with a USB-C to wireless charging puck.
Design and Build
On the face of it, the Galaxy Watch Ultra can be confused with the Watch Ultra 2 from Apple, to be precise, it resembles it in appearance, but it is different. The Apple Watch Series 8 is expect to have a square case with a circular opening for the screen and the bezel circle unlike the Apple Watch Ultra rectangular shape. Notably, it does not have a physical rotating bezel commonly found around the perimeter of the watch face, but it uses an on-screen simulation with finger swipe.
Features and Performance
Two buttons are on the right side of the watch and one in the center of the curved dial – this last one is the new ‘Quick button’ that by default, opens the workouts app. This button is a bit strange as it does not turn; the position of this button as a home button might seem quite familiar but it is very different. It is quite impressive when it comes to the vibration strength of the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
Comfort and Usability
When held first, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is quite large and thick as compared to previous generations of the Galaxy watches. Despite this, once worn, it sits nicely on the wrist and does not appear as if it would be too big. New Galaxy Watch is equipped with the Exynos W1000 SoC, which significantly improves work speed and interactivity, even versus Galaxy Watch6 series.
These first impressions indicate that that the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra brings a lot to the table and hopefully I’ll be able to explore these features further in a full review. To be continued with more updates!
